Galway sheep were always on the farm and Hubert has never lost his love of them.
His two sons, Cathal and Micheal continue the tradition of promoting the breed and keep Galway Sheep on the family farm which can be traced back for generations.

Hubert was born and raised near the north Galway townland of Corrandulla in the Village of Gortroe. As well as being a full-time farmer he has a great interest in music and the GAA. He and his family have won lots of cups and prizes including Champion Hogget Ram, Champion Lamb Ram, Champion Aged Ewes, Champion Ewe Hoggets, Champion Ewe Lambs, and Overall Champion Females at the Annual Galway Sheep Breeders Association Show and sale in Athenry every September. They have also won the All Ireland Best Pair of Galway Ewe Lambs competition held in Mountbellew Agricultural Show 6 times.
Hubert joined the Galway Sheep Breeders Association in 1995 and since then the Melia family has displayed their sheep at many of the Agricultural Shows throughout the years.
Hubert is delighted to be part of the Galway Wool initiative and looking forward to the coming years ahead.
